The Turkish Language and Literature Programme aims at training researchers of language and to train teacher candidates who have the academic qualifications to work as Turkish teachers and Turkish Language and Literature teachers in schools, private schools, study and private lessons centers affiliated to the Ministry of National Education.

Education is provided formally and remotely.

• Have advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of Turkish Language, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature, Turkish Folk Literature.

• Explain the historical development of Turkish language and literature from past to present.

• Analyse Turkish language in terms of phonetics, structure, syntax and semantics.

• Spell and punctuate Turkish correctly.

• Use written and spoken Turkish accurately, intelligibly and competently.

• Distinguish the historical periods of Turkish literature, recognise outstanding authors of these periods.

• Classify philological and literary texts of Turkish language and literature.

• Read and analyse texts that represent the historical development of Turkish language and literature.

• Determine the similarities and differences between old and contemporary Turkish dialects.

• Determine contemporary problems of Turkish language and offer solutions to them.

• Ascertain traditional and cultural aspects in written and oral texts of Turkish Folk Literature.

• Make compilation and research in the field of Turkish Folk Literature.

• Interpret literary works using his/her knowledge in classical and modern literary theories.

• Compare texts of Turkish literature with those of Western literature.

• Know how to access knowledge in the field of Turkish language and literature.

• Conduct academic study and research.

• Carry out advanced research in the field of Turkish language and literature independently.

• Use contemporary course materials, research techniques, knowledge and theories in education, research and public service.

• Take responsibility both as a team member and individually in order to provide that unforeseen complex activities faced in the practices in his/her field are carried out.

For general information on examination regulations and assessment and evaluation processes, the Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations can be applied. The Measurement and Evaluation Methods used by Istanbul Arel University are also stated below. Most of these methods are determined in line with the aims and objectives of the program.
The measurement and evaluation methods used are as follows;

Students are subjected to a final exam, apart from the exams they have taken before or the work they have done. Each semester, students are given at least one midterm exam. Apart from midterm exams, quizzes can be done without a date. The criteria to be taken into account in the success evaluation of the courses (midterm, homework, final exam, etc.) and their ratios are specified in the curriculum distributed to students at the beginning of the semester or published on the website. Final exams are held on the dates announced by the University, at the specified place and time. Final grades of students; The midterm exam is given by the lecturer / lecturer responsible for the course according to the grades of the final exam, the studies they have carried out during the semester and the attendance rules. Courses for which midterm and / or final exams will not be held are determined by the relevant department heads and school directors and forwarded to the Registrar's Office. Final grades for these courses are determined according to the studies students carry out throughout the term. Final grades are delivered to the Registrar's Office by the relevant faculty member / officer together with the success evaluation criteria.
For each course that the students take, the raw grade appreciated by the instructor at the end of the term is transformed into the following equivalent letter grade by being based on one of the relative evaluation, instructor appreciation and directly grade transformation evaluation system.
Based on this in the Turkish Language and Literature Program, grade ranges were determined based on the "faculty member's discretion". Note ranges are as follows:

Students with AA, BA, BB, CB and CC grades from a course pass directly from that course. For students who get DC and DD grades in any course to be considered as passed that course; YNO of all courses in the semester in which the course is taken must be at least 2.00. If these conditions are not fulfilled, students who have received DD and DC grades are considered unsuccessful from these courses. Students who have a YSNO of 2.00 and above at the end of the spring semester or at the end of summer education for students who continue their summer education are considered successful from the courses they have received DD and DC grades in both semesters.
At the beginning of the semester, students first get an FF in the final exams of the previous academic year. They have to take the courses they failed. Continuation for classes that are not missed there is no obligation. However, students in this situation can not take the course in practice, laboratory, workshop, etc. must continue his work.
Students who obtain a GPA of 3.00-3.49, at the end of the semester with at least a normal semester course load, are considered "Honor Students" and those who obtain a GPA of 3.50-4.00 are considered "High Honor Students".
Also, from the letter grades;
I
Grade incomplete (Incomplete); is given to the students who have not completed the required conditions excluding the attendance for the course in which they are successful in the semester. In case the student takes the grade of I from any course, s/he is obliged to get a grade by completing his/her deficiencies within two weeks as of the announcement date of the grades. This duration can be extended with the decision of the management board. Otherwise, the grade of I is transformed into the grade of FF.
E
Grade of exemption (Exempted); is given to the ones being successful in the exemption examination and the ones coming with the lateral and vertical transfer and the courses which have been taken and have been successfully completed while getting education in another higher education institution previously. The grades of E are not included to the average calculations. NA Grade of absenteeism (Not Attended); is given to the students who cannot realize the attendance conditions. In the evaluations, it is processed as the grade of FF.
S
Grade of being successful (Successful); is given to the students who are successful in the thesis studies. Also the grade of S is used in the situation of being successful for the courses taken without credit such as the term project, field, clinic and laboratory studies and seminars. The grade of S is not included to the general grade average.
U
Grade of being unsuccessful (Unsuccessful); is given to the students who are unsuccessful in the thesis studies. Also the grade of U is used in the situation of being unsuccessful for the courses taken without credit such as the term project, field, clinic and laboratory studies and seminars. The grade of U is not included to the general grade average.
In İstanbul Arel University, students can raise their objection to any exam results with a petition to be filled and submitted to the relevant Dean's office and directorate in three working days following announcement date of the exam results at the latest. The objection shall be evaluated by the relevant lecturer in five working days following the announcement of objection to him/her. Result of the reevaluation shall be reported to the relevant dean’s office or directorate with a justified and written report. Dean's office and directorate shall transfer the result of objection to the Registrar's Office in written.

To oversee the quality of higher education programs;

- YÖK is responsible for planning, organizing, managing and supervising education and training and other activities in higher education institutions.

- "University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" of higher education institutions prepared within the framework of the criteria determined by YÖK are published every year. The reports prepared according to these reports, including quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

- "Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report" containing academic, administrative and financial data of foundation higher education institutions is published annually by CoHE. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. Quality assurance of undergraduate programs in higher education is ensured according to the "Procedures and Principles for Ensuring Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programs":

1. Creation and Approval of Curricula: YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the opening of undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions.

1.1. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to the student are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

1.2. The curricula of the National Core Curricula are adopted by the relevant Council of Deans and implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of the Council of Higher Education.

2. Assessment and Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes of each undergraduate program is carried out according to the teaching and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programs, if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions; receive a bachelor's diploma.

4. Self-Assessment-External Evaluation: Higher education institutions, in the context of continuous monitoring, enter the "Institutional Internal Evaluation Reports" of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the "Institutional Feedback Report" prepared for the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions issued by accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by YÖKAK also indicate that the quality assurance of the qualifications of the programs is ensured. YÖKAK conducts regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with the legislation.

Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Curricula of Faculties of Science, Literature, Science-Literature, Language and History-Geography (FEDEK)

Accreditation start/end dates: 21.02.2024 - 30.09.2026

The admissions of students to this programme is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University Entrance Exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (YÖK). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programme they would like to study at, students are placed in the related programme according to their scores they got from the exam.

International (foreign) students are accepted to this undergraduate programme according to the score of one of internationally acceptable exams they take such as SAT, ACT etc. or according to their high school diploma score.

Exchange student admission is accepted according to the requirements determined by bilateral agreements signed by İstanbul Arel University and the partner university. Guest students may enroll into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves all requirements. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.

Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle (master's) and in some cases, to third cycle (doctorate) degree programmes in or related fields of. According to the National Regulations on Graduate Education, students are admitted to second cycle (master’s) degree programmes taking into account their first cycle degree CGPA achievement and/or the score obtained from the subject-specific "Academic and Graduate Education Entry Examination (ALES)" centrally administered nation-wide by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Within the framework of the national regulations, regulations endorsed by the senate of each university stipulate the weight of ALES Examination results in the overall evaluation of candidates. Depending on the institutions' regulations, for some programmes to be accessed, a certain level of foreign language proficiency is also required. In the overall evaluation of candidates, scores obtained from ALES Examination are allotted a minimum score of 55 and a weight of 50% for the second cycle (master's) programmes, which require a thesis work. ALES score is not compulsory and may not be taken into account for accessing to the second cycle (master's) programmes, which do not require a thesis work.
