Our goal is to train medical doctors who are equipped with a strong infrastructure, skills, and self-confidence to follow the latest developments in medicine in this era where knowledge is increasing at an incredible speed, and who can renew their knowledge and skills with their own will. We aim to instill in the doctors we train not only scientific knowledge but also the values and love for humanity that will guide them towards ethical behavior. For this reason, we aim to effectively utilize mechanisms that will allow us to treat every medical student as an individual.

Learning is delivered through formal, open, or distance education methods. In addition, practical training is carried out in university laboratories, clinical skills centers, and simulation laboratories, as well as through internships and workplace-based education in healthcare institutions such as hospitals, primary care facilities, and other relevant medical settings. 

1) Scientific Competence

• PY1: Understands the structure, function, and biological processes of the human body in light of theoretical and practical knowledge.
• PY2: Defines the normal and abnormal development of organ systems.
• PY3: Distinguishes the causes of pathological conditions and the basic molecular, cellular, biochemical, or physiological abnormalities leading to the final pathology.
• PY4: Knows the social and epidemiological structure of society.
• PY5: Knows common diseases and applies preventive medicine practices, treating them appropriately.
• PY6: Continuously improves oneself using lifelong learning skills in response to scientific, technological developments, changes in professional practices, and societal needs.

2) Clinical Skills

• PY8: Obtains a comprehensive medical history from patients and their families, including their social environment, and performs general and systematic physical and psychological examinations.
• PY9: Applies basic diagnostic tests and medical interventions with proper indications, after obtaining informed consent from the patient, and directs treatment based on the results.
• PY10: Evaluates test results in any clinical situation and makes a diagnosis using a holistic approach.
• PY11: Keeps medical and legal records, prepares patient summaries and reports in accordance with existing regulations, and refers patients to secondary care institutions when necessary.
• PY12: Classifies patients' medical and personal care needs as acute, chronic, or emergency, and plans follow-up with patient safety in mind.

1. Pre-Clinical Period (Years I–III)

In these years, an integrated education model is applied. Students take theoretical and/or practical (written, oral, multiple-choice, applied) exams at the end of each course block (committee). Students who do not attend the course block exam will receive a grade of “0” (zero) for the exam.

Each course block exam is based on questions provided by the contributing departments, weighted according to their respective share of the curriculum. The total score from all departments in the block determines the final grade for the course block exam. For course block exams, the general exam at the end of the year, and the resit exam, a 50% minimum score rule applies: if a student scores less than 50% in any course, the difference between the actual score and the 50% threshold will be subtracted from the total exam score.

At the end of the year, a “year-end general exam” is conducted, which is a multiple-choice test. The "year-end success grade" is calculated by taking 60% of the weighted average grade of the course blocks and 40% of the score obtained in the year-end general exam. A student must have a year-end success grade of at least 60/100 (CC) to pass the year. Students who cannot attend the year-end exam due to a valid excuse, as accepted by the Faculty Board, may take the resit exam. Students who do not attend the resit exam will not be allowed to take the year-end resit exam and must repeat the relevant courses in the next academic year.

2. Clinical Period (Years IV–V)

During these years, the training is based on internships. Written (theoretical) and practical (oral or applied) exams are conducted at the end of each internship. In Year IV, exams are held in the last week of the internship, while in Year V, they are conducted on the final day of the internship. A clinical internship success grade of at least 60/100 (CC) is required. Students who fail the internship will take a resit exam at the end of the internship. If a student fails the resit exam, they must repeat the internship in the following academic year.

3. Internship Period (Year VI)

Students in Year VI (intern doctors) are assessed based on their overall medical knowledge, responsibilities, patient management, communication skills, fieldwork, clinical skills, and their performance in the Pre-Doctoral Practice Record. Students are graded as "successful" or "unsuccessful" based on these evaluations.

4. Elective and Common Compulsory Courses

The assessment for elective and common compulsory courses consists of one mid-term exam and one final exam. These courses are not prerequisites for other courses. Therefore, students who fail an elective course may still continue to the next year. However, they cannot graduate without successfully completing all required elective courses.

Examination Types and Implementation

The following types of exams are applied:

• Written exams: classical, multiple-choice, mixed written (test-oriented)
• Structured oral exams
• Structured practical exams

Exams may include one or more of these types, with at least one written exam being required. In the pre-clinical years (I–III), all exam dates are announced according to the academic calendar approved by the Senate. In clinical years (IV–V), internship exam dates are determined by the relevant departments, and changes to these dates may only be made with Faculty Board approval.

Exams may be held on weekends, except for national and religious holidays.

Students are required to attend exams on the specified date, time, and location, presenting valid student ID documentation. Any student who does not attend an exam, despite being eligible to do so, is considered to have used their exam right and will receive a grade of "0". A student who takes an exam for which they are not eligible will have their grade for that exam invalidated. Students caught cheating, attempting to cheat, or assisting others in cheating will receive a grade of “0” for that exam, and disciplinary actions will be taken.

Examination Results and Appeals Process

Students may appeal their exam results within three working days of the results being announced. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Dean’s Office. The exam papers will be reviewed by the instructors to identify any material errors, and necessary grade adjustments will be made if such errors are found.

Examination and Assessment Principles

Explanations:

• FF: Failure grade; the student is required to repeat the course or internship.
• DZ (Devamsız): Grade for students who fail to meet the attendance requirements; no exam right is granted.
• GR (Girmedi): Grade for students who do not attend an exam despite having the right to do so; the score is considered “0”.
• MU (Muaf): Given for courses that a student has been exempted from.
• YT/YZ: Used for courses evaluated as "Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory".

To monitor the quality of higher education programs;

YÖK is responsible for the planning, organization, management and supervision of education and training and other activities carried out in higher education institutions.

"University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" of higher education institutions prepared annually within the framework of the criteria determined by YÖK are published. The reports prepared according to these reports, including quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

Every year, YÖK publishes the "Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report", which includes academic, administrative and financial data on foundation higher education institutions. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. Quality assurance of undergraduate programs in higher education is ensured according to the "Procedures and Principles for Ensuring Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programs":

1. Creation and Approval of Curricula:

1.1. YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the opening of undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions.

1.2. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to the student are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.

1.3. After the curriculum of the National Core Curriculum is accepted by the relevant Council of Deans, it is implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of YÖK.

2. Assessment and Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes of each undergraduate program is carried out according to the education and training and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK.

3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programs, if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions; receive an undergraduate diploma.

4. Self-Assessment-External Evaluation: Higher education institutions, in the context of continuous monitoring, enter the "Institutional Internal Evaluation Reports" of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the "Institutional Feedback

• To have graduated from secondary education institutions or foreign secondary education institutions whose equivalence is approved by the Ministry of National Education and to have met the conditions for admission to undergraduate programs of higher education institutions.
• To have been placed in the relevant undergraduate program of the higher education institution as a result of the central exam conducted by the Evaluation, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), the procedures and principles of which are determined by YÖK.

Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine work in various health units such as community health units and emergency services of public hospitals in primary health care services through a draw organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey for their two-year compulsory service. A Medical Residency Examination (TUS) is held twice a year and the graduates who are successful to get a post announced by OSYM (Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Center) are recruited in the research and education hospitals of the universities or the Turkish Ministry of Health.. Graduates can also continue their doctoral programs.
