Basket University Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture Department of Architecture has started education in 2012-2013 academic year. The education period covers 1 year of English Prep school and 4 years of undergraduate education.

Department of Architecture aims at raising architects who are creative, keep abreast of technologic and scientific developments, sensitive to natural- social and cultural environment, open minded, respecting multidisciplinarity and team work, ethical on practicing the profession, and serves for the benefits of the society.

With the program that is prepared according to this mission, it is intended to link art and technology, use contemporary technology, improve sensibility on conservation of cultural heritage, support the works related to sustainability of natural sources. Acting with social responsibility on diverse projects from single building scale to urban design scale, and working together with different disciplines on solving design problems are the fundamentals of the programme.

Baskent University Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture Department of Architecture starting from the second year, a more architectural oriented program starts and design studios are provided with technical courses. On third and fourth years, besides courses focused on basic architectural skills, elective course groups guides students to diverse specialty topics according to their talents, skills and interests.

Education and training are carried out in the form of formal or, where necessary, distant learning. In addition, practical trainings are carried out in public institutions, private sector and architecture offices as internship.

• Analyzes the components of the design process, uses design tools, methods, and organization systems; acquires the ability to apply design principles at the scales of urban, building, and space.
• Acquires the skills of research and analysis, comprehends the basic architectural qualities of research and analysis results, and produces solutions that will enable these qualities to be associated with the design process.
• Resolves potentials and problems in approaching design problems, produces alternative concepts by developing notion, and proposes theoretical and practical suggestions for the solution of the problem.
• Comprehends the visualization process with the valid technical expression and tools in the design process and in the expression of the final product, produces technically correct and expressive two- and three-dimensional drawings and models using hand and/or computer techniques.
• Understands the importance of using appropriate presentation techniques in the design process and in the expression of final product, develops the ability to observe, perceive, and analyze three-dimensional objects and spaces.
• Acquires the ability to obtain information about the context of the environment, urban, and society in design, to evaluate this information with a holistic approach during the design process, and to develop suggestions for the context with design tools.
• Conducts studies on recognizing cities and urban spaces, comprehends and uses the basic techniques necessary to understand the history, morphological structure and typological character of cities and to prepare design projects to be developed in this context.
• Comprehends the needs, values, and behavioral norms of different cultures and individuals and considers them in the architectural design process.
• On the global and local scale, notices the architecture of different periods of history and the climatic, technological, socio-economic, and cultural factors which shape the architecture.
• Carries out studies aimed at recognizing and protecting cultural heritage, comprehends and uses basic information and techniques on documentation and conversation studies.
• Analyzes architectural products by establishing their relation with the context, develops reading, writing, and questioning skills on the production of space.
• Becomes sensitive to cultural and historical accumulation and responsible in increasing the quality of life on a local and global scale, acquires awareness of lifelong learning.
• Understands the effects of function, form, material and construction systems in the design process and develops the ability to use them as design inputs.

• In construction design; comprehends the carrier system, construction element systems and service systems; uses them holistically in the design process by associating them with each other.
• Understands the principles and standards related to the production, use and applications of construction materials and components, and uses them holistically in the design process.
• In the design process; comprehends the basic principles of environmental systems and lighting, acoustics, air conditioning and energy use and operate them by associating with each other.
• Analyzes employer and user requirements during the design process, determines spatial needs, ascertains the relevant codes, specifications and standards and comprehends their impact on the development of the design.
• Acquires knowledge on relevant laws and regulations for public health, safety and benefit; comprehends the ethical responsibilities of the architect to the public, the user, the employer and the stakeholders and relates all these responsibilities with each other.
• Considers the requirements of the relevant laws and regulations (fire, earthquake, etc.) as fundamental inputs in the design process.

According to “Başkent University Regulation on Undergraduate Education and Exams”;

For each course, students are given at least one midterm and one final exam at the end of the term. The instructor can give announced/unannounced quizzes, consider homeworks, projects, lab, or similar works as a midterm. Exams can be written, oral, both written and oral and/or applied.

While assessing term success grade, all the exam results, half-year studies, attendance, and participation is considered. Their percentages are determined by the instructor and declared within two weeks of the course starts to the department or program chairs and students.

Letter grading systems are used to evaluate student achievement. At the end of a semester, one of the following letter grades for each course is given to the students with the appreciation of the lecturer. The student who gets one of the grades (A), (A+), (A-), (B+), (B), (B-), (C+), (C), (C-), (D+), (D) is considered to have succeeded in the course. 'F1' and 'F2' grades show that the student has failed the course. 'F1' is given to students who have attended but failed, whereas 'F2' is given to students who have failed the course due to unattendance. The students who have failed due to unattendance cannot take the end-term exam or if it's given resit exam. Students who got an ‘F1’ or ‘F2’ repeat the course in the following terms.

A student whose ATGA and GGA is at least 2,00 and has no repeat courses is considered as a successful student. A student with an ATGA and GGA of 2,00 or higher and has a recurring class, with an ATGA of 2,00 or higher and GGA of 1,99 or below, with a GGA of 2,00 or higher and ATGA of 1,99 below, and with an ATGA and GGA of 1,99 and below is considered to be unsuccessful.

To observe the quality of higher education programs;

• YÖK is responsible for the planning, organization, management and supervision of education and training and other activities carried out in higher education institutions.
• “University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports” of higher education institutions prepared annually within the framework of the criteria determined by YÖK are published. The reports prepared according to these reports, including quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.
• Every year, YÖK publishes the “Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report”, which includes academic, administrative, and financial data on foundation higher education institutions. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

Quality assurance of undergraduate programs in higher education is ensured according to the “Procedures and Principles for Ensuring Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programs”:

1. Creation and Approval of Curricula:
   1. YÖK determines the minimum standards and criteria required for the opening of undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions.
   2. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to students are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.
   3. The curricula of the National Core Curricula are adopted by the relevant Council of Deans and implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of the YÖK.
2. Measurement-Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes of each undergraduate program is carried out according to the education and training and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK on these issues.
3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programs, if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions; receive a bachelor’s degree.
4. Self-Assessment-External Assessment: In the context of continuous monitoring, higher education institutions enter their “Institutional Internal Evaluation Reports” for the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Council (THEQC) at the beginning of each year. THEQC shares the “Institutional Feedback Report” prepared for the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions issued by accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by THEQC also indicate that the quality assurance of the qualifications of the programs is ensured. THEQC conducts regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with the legislation.

As a result of the evaluation carried out by the ARCHITECTURAL ACCREDITATION BOARD (MiAK-MAK) within the scope of MiAK-MAK Accreditation Conditions (2021), this program has been awarded the 2-YEAR SUPERVISORY ACCREDITATION (August 2, 2023 - August 2, 2025) specified in Article 7.4 of MiAK-MAK Accreditation Processes (2021).

• Graduating from secondary education institutions or secondary education institutions of foreign countries whose equivalence is approved by the Ministry of National Education and meeting the admission requirements for undergraduate programs of higher education institutions.
• To be assigned in this program as a result of the central exam conducted by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), whose procedures and principles are determined by YÖK.

• Undergraduate students have the right to participate in double major programs offered by the higher education institutions where they are studying. Students enrolled in double major programs can take courses from two diploma programs simultaneously and receive two separate undergraduate diplomas if they are successful.
• Those who have a bachelor’s degree can attend to master’s degree programs and, if they meet the relevant requirements, they will be accepted to doctorate programs by a bachelor’s degree.
• For graduates of Department of Architecture, there are variety of job opportunities in governmental institutions, public sectors and municipalities. Graduates can also establish their own private design firm. On the other hand, there is a great need for architects on academic field. Competitions are also an important work area for improving skills on architecture. Additionally, interdisciplinary character of architecture offers its graduates to work efficiently in diverse areas.
