Further Info | Mining Engineering Department Mining Engineering Department, approaching its 30 year anniversary in academic teaching and research, is an experienced department supported by professional staff and strong infrastructure. Our main goal is to continuously strive reaching upper levels in the Mining Engineering education and, in doing so, graduating competitive and successful engineers both in national and international levels. It is our objective to constantly support our students’ desires to be well-equipped individuals at these levels by continuously improving ourselves in technical and social areas. There are about 20 academic staff in the Mining Engineering department. Five professors, five associate professors, three assistant professors, one Post-doctoral researcher and five research assistants are busy with their learning, teaching and research activities. The department is supported by two administrative staff as well. International researchers, conducting long term research in our department, enhance the department’s recognizability. The staff at our department has proved their scientific knowledge and skills in many national and international settings with their books, publications, conferences and symposiums. There are prestigious award winners, international journal editors, international testing-standard developers and high-budget project managers among our sophisticated, active and young academic staff. The department graduated around 1000 BSc., 100 MSc., and 20 PhD degree students so far. Each year, many foreign students benefit from the teaching/research capabilities of our department; thanks to the active exchange programs. Our students benefit from education facilities abroad as well, and gain unique academic and social experiences. Paid work and research opportunities are available at all levels; ranging from undergraduate to doctoral degrees; supported by national and international projects undertaken by our experienced academic staff. There are three sub-tracks in our department; namely Mining Systems Engineering, Mine Mechanization and Technology, and lastly Mineral Processing. Mining Systems Engineering. Sub-track studies engineering issues related exploration, excavation, ground support, logistics and mine feasibility. Mining Mechanization and Technology deals with the cutting theories and mining machines. Mineral Processing deals with the ores quality improvement and beneficiation processes. There are five main laboratories in the department; namely Excavation Mechanics and Natural Stones, Ore Processing, Flotation, Chemical and Biological Beneficiation and Mineral and Coal Processing Technology Laboratory. More than 4 million Turkish Liras of funding is secured from non-university sources from projects conducted by our department in the last five years. The funding came from the EU (European Union), DPT (Turkish State Planning Organization), TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) and the private companies. Funding is also available from the BAP (Scientific Research Projects Coordination Department) of our university for graduate level research that ends with a thesis. In the last five years, our academic staff published more than 350 indexed scientific papers with more than 2000 citations to these papers. As well, we carry on collaborative studies with many national and international research institutions in many countries (Italy, Greece, Spain, Germany, Kazakhstan, İndia, Poland, Czech Republic etc.). | |
