| Further Info | Profile of the Programme: The undergraduate program, through a critical and analytical study of major English, American, and other authors, helps students achieve a mature understanding of themselves and the world, write clearly and persuasively, reason soundly, and express themselves intelligently in English. The program provides a solid foundation in English literature and culture as well as in critical thinking and intellectual growth. The department curriculum encompasses the analysis and discussion of various literary genres and types; the origins and characteristics of classical mythology; literary terms and movements; Old and Middle English literature; the Renaissance; the Romantic Period; the Victorian Age; the English Novel; English Drama; English social, economic, political and cultural history; American history and culture; world literature; and the theory and practice of criticism. Apart from department courses, students will be able to take elective courses from a wide range of subjects offered by other departments of the University, such as computer programming, foreign language, and the fine arts. Students can have a double major diploma or a minor certificate from another department. They can continue their education at a university in a member country of the European Union for one term or two terms within the framework of ERASMUS Student Mobility Program. Students can also get an English Language Teaching Certificate from another university.
Examinations and assessment methods applied in the courses are defined in the “Grading Policy” sections of the course definition forms. The relevant articles of “Çankaya University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Academic Education Regulations” apply to the exams and academic scores of students.
Formal Education
Individuals qualified to register as undergraduate students in the Department of English Language and Literature are required to have completed successfully their high school education or its equivalent, and they should succeed in the National Student Selection and Placement Exam. The students who have taken courses in another higher education institution in Turkey or abroad can ask for credit and grade transfer. The applications are evaluated by an executive board and transfer requests are made to cover the entire academic program and cannot be repeated.
