Our undergraduate program offers students a comprehensive undergraduate education that will enable them to achieve a successful career in archaeology.

While our program offers the opportunity to gain knowledge about the history and culture of Anatolian and surrounding cultures, starting from the Paleolithic Period until the end of the Late Antique Period, it also aims to prepare them for future job opportunities. 

Our graduates will be able to work in the field as archaeologists, as well as have various career opportunities such as museum experts, academics, researchers and consultants. 

Our program aims to ensure that students gain the ability to apply archaeological excavation techniques and documentation methods, develop their analytical thinking and research skills, and acquire the ability to use contemporary archaeological techniques and tools. 

Our program aims to ensure that our graduates have knowledge about issues such as preservation of cultural heritage, museology, restoration and conservation, and to develop their competencies to work in these fields.

In our department, education and training activities are carried out as formal, face to face education. Education and trainings are carried out theoretically in the classroom blocks of our University's Faculty of Letters. In addition, internship and professional work training options are available for students in museums, excavation sites, laboratories and workshops.

• Acquires and applies foundational knowledge and terminology of archaeology in practical applications.
• Develops the ability to identify, interpret, and evaluate archaeological problems based on acquired knowledge in the field.
• Utilizes archaeological excavation methods and technical knowledge of documentation techniques in fieldwork.
• Distinguishes and analyzes the period, style, and chronological issues of archaeological data and materials, and demonstrates the ability to make comparisons during scientific research.
• Compares chipped stone, ceramics, architecture, sculpture and other small finds, which are the basic materials of archaeology, with data from contemporary settlements and interprets them by establishing connections between them.
• Establishes connections with disciplines such as history, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, ancient languages, and cultures.
• Gains knowledge of the preservation of archaeological materials, museum practices, restoration, and conservation, and learns to assess the position of cultural heritage within the environment.
• Develops the skills to use contemporary techniques and tools necessary for archaeological practices and scientific research.
• Generates innovative ideas contributing to the field of archaeology and possesses the competence to provide research and consultancy services compatible with science and technology.

(1) Whether a student is considered successful in a course is determined by the course achievement grade. The course achievement grade is calculated using the relative grading method, based on the student's performance in midterm exams, submitted assignments, practical work, and other assessment methods throughout the semester/year, as well as the final exam results. The impact of assessment criteria other than midterm and final exams on the achievement grade cannot exceed 10%. 
(2) The achievement grade is determined using one of the methods prescribed by the Student Information and Management System (ÖİBS) and approved by the Senate, considering the overall performance of the class, arithmetic averages, and statistical distribution.
(3) The raw achievement grade of a course is calculated by summing 40% of the midterm exam score and 60% of the final or resit exam score.
(4) Exam results are entered into the ÖİBS by the course instructor within the period specified in the academic calendar and announced to students. The grades become final on the day they are approved by the instructor.

2) A student is considered successful in a course if they receive an AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, DC, or DD grade.

(3) Students who do not attend the semester/year-end exam are given a GR grade regardless of their performance during the semester/year, and this grade is recorded as zero in the system.

(4) DZ and GR grades are treated as FF and are included in the calculation of the weighted grade point average. Courses failed with DZ or GR grades must be retaken in the following semester/year as a priority.

(5) Grades for courses taken at other higher education institutions within the last five years are converted into letter grades. The criteria for grade conversion are determined by the Senate.

In addition, students with a semester/year grade point average of at least 2.00 are also considered successful in courses where they received a (DC) grade for that semester/year. This result is expressed as (DC+).

In order to monitor the quality of higher education programs;

• YÖK is responsible for planning, organizing, managing and supervising education and training and other activities in higher education institutions.

• “University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports” of higher education institutions prepared within the framework of criteria determined by YÖK are published every year. The reports prepared according to these reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

• “Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report”, which includes academic, administrative and financial data of foundation higher education institutions, is published every year by YÖK. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations of foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. Quality assurance of undergraduate programs in higher education is provided according to the “Procedures and Principles for Providing Quality Assurance of Higher Education Diploma Programs”:

1. Creation and Approval of Curriculum: The Council of Higher Education determines the minimum standards and criteria required for establishing undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions.

1.1. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to students are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by the Council of Higher Education on these issues.

1.2. The curriculum of the National Core Curriculum is approved by the relevant Deans' Council and implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of the Council of Higher Education.

2. Measurement and Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes that each undergraduate program will provide to students is carried out in accordance with the education and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by the Council of Higher Education on these issues.

3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programs receive a bachelor's degree if they successfully complete the course credits and other obligations determined by the higher education institutions.

4. Self Assessment-External Assessment: In the context of continuous monitoring, higher education institutions enter the “Internal Institutional Assessment Reports” of the previous year into the Information System prepared by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the “Institutional Feedback Report” prepared for the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. In addition, accreditation decisions made by accreditation institutions authorized or recognized by YÖKAK also show that the quality assurance of the program qualifications is provided. YÖKAK conducts regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined in accordance with its legislation.

Our graduates can become academics in universities, work in departments of the General Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, City Culture Directorates, museums, at positions for the preservation of the cultural heritage in municipalities, and other public offices such as BOTAŞ, DSİ, TCKY, DDY, TPAO, etc...
