The purpose of the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design program is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and professional abilities for their career. Furthermore, to help the students understand issues of social responsibility and collaborative dialog and provide an environment within which they can develop understanding, excellence and self awareness.

Learning occurs through formal, open, or distance education modalities. Additionally, practical training takes place either within the laboratories and workshops of higher education institutions or through internships or workplace training in industries, healthcare institutions, or businesses.

2. To be able to recognize, analyze and integrate within their practice the particular local and regional needs and developments of their profession

3. To be able to communicate and collaborate with other individuals and groups on a national and international level within their profession

5. To be able to understand the social and environmental issues and responsibilities of their profession

6. To be able identify, assess and utilize the most up to date research, innovations, trends and technologies

9. To be able to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to design on a national and international level

11. To be able to collect data in the areas of interior architecture and environmental design and communicate with colleagues in a foreign language

For each course taken at IUE, the student is given one of the letter grades below by the instructor as the semester course grade. Each grade has also it’s as ECTS grade equivalent. The table below provides the detailed information about the local letter grades, coefficients and ECTS grade equivalents.

                      *For these ones, the higher grade is applied.

In order to be successful in a course, short cycle (associate degree) and first cycle (bachelor’s degree) students have to get a grade of at least DD, second cycle (master's degree) students have to get a grade of at least CC, and third cycle (Ph.D.) students have to get a grade of at least CB to pass a course. For courses which are not included in the cumulative GPA, students need to get a grade of S. Apart from that, each local grade has it is equivalent ECTS grade which makes it easier to transfer the grades of mobility periods of students. The chart above shows the ECTS grading system at IUE.

Also, among the Letter Grades; 

Grade of I (Incomplete), is given to students who are not able to meet all the course requirements at the end of the semester or summer school due to a valid justification accepted by the instructor. Students who receive a letter grade “I” must complete their missing course requirements and receive a letter grade within one week following the date the end of semester grades or summer school grades submitted. However, in the event of special cases, this period can be extended until two weeks before the beginning of registration for the next semester, upon the recommendation of the respective Graduate School department head and the decision of that academic unit’s administrative board. Otherwise, grade of “I” will automatically become grade of FF, or grade of U.

Grade of S (Satisfactory) is given to students who are successful in non-credited courses.

Grade of U (Unsatisfactory) is given to students who are unsuccessful in non-credited courses.

Grade of P (Successful Progress) is given to students, who continue to the courses that are not included in the GPA that has a period exceeding one semester, and regularly performs the academic studies for the respective semester.

Grade of NP (Not Successful Progress) is given to students, who do not regularly perform the academic studies for the respective semester for courses that are not included in the GPA and have a period exceeding one semester.

Grade of EX (Exempt), is given to students who are exempt from some of the courses in the curriculum.

Grade of NI (Not included) is issued to identify the courses taken by the student in the program or programs which are not included in the GPA of the student. This grade is reported in the students’ transcripts with the respective letter grade. Such courses are not counted as the courses in the program that the student is registered to.

Grade of W (Withdrawal) is used for the courses that the student withdraws from in the first ten weeks of the semester following the add/drop period, upon the recommendation of his/ her advisor and the permission of the instructor that teaches the course. A student is not allowed to withdraw from courses during the first two semesters of his/ her associate/undergraduate degree program and from those courses he/she has to repeat and received grade “W” before, which are not included in the grade average. A student is allowed to withdraw from one course, including double major, minor, or certificate program courses, at the most in one semester, and two courses at the most during his/ her associate degree study, and six courses during his/her undergraduate study upon the recommendation of the advisor and the permission of the instructor that teaches the course. A student has to take the course that he/she withdrew from, the first semester in which it is offered. In accordance with the protocols made between Izmir University of Economics and educational institutions or official authorities abroad, the exchange program students being educated at Izmir University of Economics may withdraw from courses upon the recommendation of International Relations Office Directorate and the permission of the instructor. In this case, the rules concerning the grade of “W” will not be applied.

Grade “NA” (Non-Attendance) is issued by the instructor for students who fail to fulfil the attendance and/or requirements of the course and/or who lose their right to take the end of semester exam because they failed to take any of the exams administered throughout the semester. Grade “NA” is considered as 0, 00 (zero) in taking the averages.

Both the ECTS grades and the local grades of the students are displayed on the official transcript of the students.

To ensure the quality of higher education programs:

• The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) is responsible for the planning, organization, management, and supervision of education, teaching, and other activities in higher education institutions.

• "University Monitoring and Evaluation Reports" prepared in accordance with the criteria set by YÖK for higher education institutions are published annually. These reports, containing quantitative and qualitative evaluations of higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK.

• The "Foundation Higher Education Institutions Report," containing academic, administrative, and financial data for foundation higher education institutions, is published annually by YÖK. These reports, which include quantitative and qualitative evaluations for foundation higher education institutions, are shared with the public by YÖK. 

Quality assurance for undergraduate programs in higher education is ensured according to the "Principles and Procedures for Ensuring the Quality of Higher Education Diploma Programs":

1. Development and Approval of Teaching Programs: The minimum standards and criteria required for opening undergraduate departments and programs in higher education institutions are determined by YÖK.

1.1. The curriculum of undergraduate programs in higher education institutions and the learning outcomes that each program will provide to students are determined by the senates of higher education institutions in accordance with the basic principles determined by YÖK.

1.2. After the curriculum of National Core Education Programs is approved by the relevant Deans Council, it is implemented by higher education institutions with the approval of YÖK.

2. Assessment and Evaluation: The measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes that each undergraduate program will provide to students are conducted in accordance with the teaching and examination regulations prepared by higher education institutions in line with the basic principles determined by YÖK.

3. Certification: Students enrolled in undergraduate programs receive a bachelor's degree upon successfully completing the course credits and other obligations determined by higher education institutions.

4. Self-Assessment - External Assessment: Higher education institutions enter the "Institutional Self-Assessment Reports" prepared by the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK) for the previous year into the Information System at the beginning of each year. YÖKAK shares the "Institutional Feedback Report" prepared for the external evaluation of higher education institutions with the public. Additionally, accreditation decisions given by accreditation bodies authorized or recognized by YÖKAK indicate that the qualifications of the programs ensure quality assurance. YÖKAK conducts regular review activities regarding the qualifications determined by legislation.

Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Undergraduate Program has been awarded 5-YEAR ACCREDITATION (05.06.2025 - 05.06.2030) as a result of the evaluation carried out within the scope of TAPLAK - Interior Architecture Accreditation Board (IMEPAK) Accreditation Conditions and Accreditation Criteria for Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Undergraduate Programs.

Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Undergraduate Program  is hereby certified as an educational member by the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) since 2017.

İzmir University of Economics admits students through the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) organized by ÖSYM. The Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department accepts students with the Equal Weight (EW) score type in the YKS student admission. Students are admitted to the program with 100% and 25% scholarship and fee-based. 

General registration and admission procedures at İzmir University of Economics are carried out by the university, and academic registration procedures are applied by the dean's office. Information on relevant regulations can be found on the İzmir University of Economics website:

Students are also admitted to the program through horizontal transfer other than YKS. Admission of students through horizontal transfer is based on the principles determined by the Senate in accordance with the Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Undergraduate Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer, published in the Official Gazette dated 24/4/2010 and numbered 27561, and other legislation.

In addition to the YKS, students are also accepted into the program through lateral transfers. Admission through lateral transfer, both from outside and within the university, is conducted based on principles determined by the Senate in accordance with the "Regulation on Transition, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer Between Associate and Bachelor's Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions" published in the Official Gazette dated 24/4/2010 and other related legislation. 

In accordance with the relevant legislation and university regulations, special student status is applied at Izmir University of Economics. Special students are those who are not enrolled in any associate or bachelor's degree program at İEÜ, but are expected to complete the requirements of a limited number of courses by enrolling in them. Admission of special students to associate-bachelor level courses is subject to approval by the department chair and/or dean/school director. Special students are not considered as students of the University and do not benefit from student rights. They receive a document indicating the courses they are enrolled in and the grades they receive upon request. This document does not substitute for a diploma or indicate an academic degree. Special students pay the fee determined by the University and are subject to the rules applied to all students of the University.

The language of instruction in the program is English. Except for mandatory courses designated by YÖK (Council of Higher Education) such as Turkish Language and History of Revolution courses, all courses are conducted and evaluated in English throughout the program. Students admitted to the program are subject to the English Proficiency Determination Exam (EPDE). This exam is administered to determine the language proficiency levels of newly enrolled students who will attend the English preparatory program. Students who score 69.50 and above in the EPDE are eligible to take the English Proficiency Exam (EPE). Students who do not obtain a sufficient score in the EPDE continue in the English preparatory program based on their scores. The ability of students who obtain a sufficient score in the EPDE to follow the academic level courses in terms of language proficiency is determined by the EPE. This exam measures students' language skills and competencies in grammar, reading, listening, note-taking, written expression, and oral expression. Students who score 64.50 and above in the EPE proceed to the course stage of the program, while those who score below this value continue in the English preparatory program according to their scores.

• They can work as interior architects and consultants in private and public organizations.

• They can work in the Ministry of Public Works and Settlement and provincial and district municipalities.

• They can be a member or manager of a designer group in private companies.

• They can work in countless fields ranging from all kinds of interiors (housing, restaurants, shopping centers, hospitals, schools, etc.) to fair stands and furniture design.

• They can work as interior architects specialized in television studios, theater stages and shop windows and displays.

• They can design compact and mobile spaces such as airplanes, yachts and caravans.

• Those who do not prefer to be affiliated to an organization can also work independently by opening their own private offices.

• They can develop themselves in all kinds of design disciplines (cinema/television, performing arts, costume/decor, lighting, art direction, photography, fine arts, restoration, etc.).
